NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's tennis team finished off the season sweep of Castleton on Wednesday evening at Shapiro Fieldhouse in non-conference action.
Norwich (4-1, 0-0 GNAC North) swept Castleton 9-0 to win its third straight match of the year.
Freshman
Jeff Purdy (Lebanon, N.H.) stayed perfect on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles and an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles with
Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) over Ryan Mulder and Trevor Hanna to improve to 5-0 in both solo and duo matches this season.
Carter had a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 victory over Tyler Wilcox at No. 5 singles in the final match to be completed on the day.
Norwich jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles with senior
Ryan Grindle (Essex Junction, Vt.) and sophomore
Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) combining to take No. 1 doubles 8-4 over Seth Marcil and Kyle Martin.
Grindle won No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Martin. Tourigny downed Marcil 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Hyte beat Overton 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Ogden took No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2 over Mulder.
Castleton fell to 2-3 overall on the season. Norwich will look to extend its winning streak on Saturday when it travels down to New Haven, Conn. to take on Albertus Magnus in an inter-GNAC division matchup against the Falcons.
