NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's tennis team won its second match in a row with an 8-1 win over Lyndon State on Wednesday afternoon at Shapiro Fieldhouse in non-conference action.
Freshman Jeff Purdy (Lebanon, N.H.) stayed perfect on the season at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Michael Desmond. He also teamed with Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) to take No. 3 doubles over Desmond and Kyle Burteau 8-0. Purdy is 4-0 in singles action and 4-0 teaming with Carter at third doubles.
Carter beat Tyler Hall 6-0, 6-1 at No.4 singles to improve to 3-1 on the season in singles action.
Senior Ryan Grindle (Essex Junction, Vt.) beat John Corey 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to improve to 3-1 on the season. He also teamed with Tyler Eagan (Verona, N.J.) to defeat Michael Sigsbury and Tyler Hall to take No. 2 doubles 8-1. Eagan won No. 6 singles over Burteau 6-0, 6-1.
Freshman Marc-Olivier Tourigny (Drummondville, Quebec) beat Sigsbury 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to improve to 3-1 on the season. Tourigny and Patrick Ogden (Madison, Ala.) teamed to take No. 1 doubles over Corey and Trevor Updike 8-1.
Norwich improved to 3-1 with the victory and will close out its four-match home stand against Castleton next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
