BRISTOL, R.I. – The Norwich University
wrestling team competed in day one of the NCAA Division III
Northeast Regionals hosted by Roger Williams University on
Saturday.
Senior Will
Burns (Mascoutah, Ill.) was seeded third at 174 pounds
and won his first round match over Brandon Conrad of RIC by an 8-6
decision. Burns was then pinned by five seed Ryan Sblendorio from
WUC in 1:30 in the quarterfinals. Burns then won his first match in
the consolation bracket, defeating Taylor Lozier of PSU with an
11-6 decision. Burns remains in the hunt for third place going into
day two.
Senior Alex
Stewart (Elicott City, Md.) earned a victory in the
consolation round at 133 pounds when he topped Frank Crippen of WUC
by a 4-1 decision before losing in the following round.
Junior James
Duncan (Brewster, N.Y.) also picked up a win in the
consolation round in the 141-pound weight class as he pinned Matt
Marino of SUON in 6:58 before losing in the next match.
Senior Alex
Kwmuntis (Peabody, Mass.) pinned Josh Berland of TCC
in 57 seconds in the consolation bracket at 157 pounds before
dropping his next match.
Freshman Zach Gibson (Lithopolis, Ohio) took an 11-0
major decision over Vincent Drago of RIC in the consolation bracket
at 165 pounds before being eliminated in his next round.
Competition resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m.
