NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University tennis team tied a program-record for wins in a season with an 8-1 victory over Lyndon State on Friday at Shapiro Field House.
The Cadets (8-2, 1-2 GNAC) tied the 1998 squad's eight-match win total with their third victory of the season over Lyndon State.
Seniors Joseph Dvorak (De Soto, Kan.) and Joan Carroll (Dover, N.H.) each notched a pair of victories to lead Norwich to the win in the final matches of their careers.
Dvorak teamed with Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) to take No. 1 doubles 8-3 over John Corey and Trevor Updike. Carroll teamed with Tyler Eagan (Verona, N.J.) to win No. 3 doubles over Mike Desmond and John Williams.
Norwich swept the doubles matches as Ryan Grindle (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) picked up the victory at No. 2 doubles over Tyler Hall and Josh Bacon to take a 3-0 commanding lead in the match.
Carroll beat Williams 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to close out her career in style, while Dvorak beat Bacon 6-1, 6-0.
Grindle took No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2 over Updike and Hyte swept Hall 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Junior Patrick Ogden (Madison, Ala.) beat Desmond 8-1 in a pro set at No. 5 singles to complete the Norwich victories.
John Corey picked up a win by forfeit over Christian Hoskey (Saint Charles, Ill.) at No. 1 singles to pick up Lyndon's lone victory.
