NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's tennis team swept its second straight match with a 9-0 win against Lyndon State on Thursday afternoon at Shapiro Field House.

The Cadets (3-0, 0-0 GNAC North) dropped just 22 games in the entire match as they stayed perfect in 2014 after opening the season with a 5-4 win over Castleton on March 5 and downing Johnson State 9-0 on Tuesday.

Norwich took a commanding 3-0 lead after the doubles matches and then continued its momentum in the singles matches, sweeping all six of those as well.

Junior Ryan Grindle (Essex Junction, Vt.) and senior Christian Hoskey (Saint Charles, Ill.) teamed to take first doubles 8-2 over John Corey and Trevor Updike. Grindle then downed Corey 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, while Hoskey beat Updike 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Senior co-captain Joe Dvorak (De Soto, Kan.) and freshman Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) combined to take second doubles 8-2 against Chas Legge and Tyler Hall. Hyte then downed Hall 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, while Dvorak beat Legge 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) and junior Patrick Ogden (Madison, Ala.) took third doubles over Mike Desmond and Josh Bacon 8-5. Carter beat Desmond 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles, while Ogden downed Bacon 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, March 26 when it travels to Castleton State to take on the Spartans at 4 p.m. Last time the two teams met, NU escaped with a 5-4 victory in a match that lasted over four hours.
