NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University
wrestling team hosted American International College in a dual meet
Saturday night.
The Yellow Jackets topped the Cadets 24-21 in a meet that was
decided in its final match.
Junior Alex
Stewart (Ellicott City, Md.) defeated Blake Nikkinen
by a 12-6 decision at 133 pounds.
Freshman Ben
Swanson (Little Silver, N.J.) won by decision over
Zachary Ziobro 9-4 in a 149-pound match.
Junior Willam Burns (Mascoutah Ill.) dropped Michael
Schulze by a 16-2 major decision at 174 pounds.
Junior Nick
Smith (Hanover, Mass.) pinned Jonathan Ortiz 1:05 into
their 184-pound match.
Senior Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, R.I.) picked up a
forfeit win at 285 pounds.
Norwich led 21-18 entering the final match, in which AIC's
Sheldon Rhoden pinned senior Chris
Schenk (Newnan, Ga.) 2:14 into their 197-pound
match.
The Cadets are next in action when they travel to the University
of New Hampshire for the Northern Atlantic Championships on
February 8th at 10 a.m.
