NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Norwich University
wrestling team competed in the All-Academy Wrestling Championship
hosted by the Coast Guard Academy on Saturday.
The Cadets finished in seventh place with a total of 6.5
points.
Junior Alex
Stewart (Ellicott City, Md.) led Norwich with a fourth
place finish at 133 pounds.
Stewart lost his first match of the day to Gregory Rinker of the
Air Force Academy by pinfall at 1:30.
Stewart then moved directly into the consolation semifinals
after a bye in round 1, where he won by injury default over Logan
Everett of the U.S. Military Academy.
In the third place match Stewart was felled by Aaron Hansen of
The Citadel by a 17-4 major decision.
Alex accounted for five of the teams' points.
Junior William Burns (Mascoutah, Ill.) lost in his
quarterfinal bout against Brian Harvey of the U.S. Military Academy
by a 9-3 decision, but then topped Daniel Fiorvanti of the Coast
Guard Academy by a 12-2 major decision.
Burns then lost in the consolation semifinals to Josh Miller of
the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy by a 9-2 decision.
Norwich improved on a last-place finish in last year's
tourney.
The Cadets are next in action on February 8th when
they host American International at 6 p.m. The dual match will be
live streamed on NSNSports.net/Norwich.
