BRISTOL, R.I. – The Norwich University wrestling team competed in the Roger Williams Invitational hosted by Roger Williams University on Saturday.
The Cadets finished in eighth place out of 12 teams with 50 total points.
Senior Will Burns (Mascoutah, Ill.) led Norwich with a second place finish in the 174 pound division.
Burns won four matches en route to the finals including a 17-10 decision over Justin Marsh of WPI in the quarterfinals. He advanced to the finals after a medical forefeit by Tyler Gargano of Ohio Northern in the semifinals.
Freshman Frank Girolamo (Stoughton, Mass.) finished in fifth place in the heavyweight division. Girolamo advanced to the quarterfinals and also advanced to the semifinals of the consolation round before winning by medical forfeit in the fifth place contest.
Also picking up match victories for the Cadets were senior captain Alex Stewart (Elicott City, Md.) at 133 pounds, Ben Swanson (Little Silver, N.Y.) at 157 pounds, senior Jacob Towse (West Springfield, Mass.) at 197 pounds and senior captain Steve Maldonado (Nyack, N.Y) at heavyweight.
Norwich is next in action on Saturday, November 22nd when they face WPI and Southern Maine in a tri-match. The match, hosted by WPI, is set to start at noon.
