LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Norwich University tennis team broke a three-match losing streak with a 6-3 win over Lyndon State on Monday at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.
Junior Christian Hoskey (Saint Charles, Ill.), as well as sophomores Ryan Grindle (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Patrick Ogden (Madison, Ala.) each posted multiple victories to lead the Cadets (4-4, 1-2 GNAC) to their second victory of the season over the Hornets.
Hoskey and Grindle teamed for the first time this season to take first doubles 8-2 over John Corey and Tyler Hall. Hoskey then breezed at No. 1 singles with a pair of straight set 6-0 sweeps of Tyler Schofield. Grindle also make short work of Corey at second singles with 6-1 and 6-2 victories.
Ogden also went 2-0 on the day teaming with Joe Dvorak (De Soto, Kansas) to take second doubles 8-2 and then downing Tyler Hall 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Senior Kristine Brammer (Littleton, N.H.) also picked up her first victory of her collegiate career with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win over Chas Legge at No. 5 singles.
Lyndon State (2-5, 2-0 NAC) was led by Michael Desmond and Dan Weiner who each picked up two victories for the Hornets. Desmond won sixth singles with an 8-2 pro set win over Gustavo Avila (Phoenix, Ariz.). He also teamed Weiner to down Brammer and Avila 8-5 at third doubles. Weiner rallied to beat Dvorak 7-5, 8-7 after dropping the first set 4-6.
Norwich will look to win back-to-back matches on Thursday when it hosts Johnson State at 3:30 p.m. at Shapiro Fieldhouse. The Cadets then close out the 2013 regular season at Emerson on Saturday, April 13 and hosting Anna Maria the following Saturday, April 20.
