Men's Lacrosse: Cardinals Down Cadets, 14-2

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—The Norwich University men's lacrosse team fell to the Cardinals of Plattsburgh State University 14-2 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Fieldhouse Complex. With the loss, the Cadets fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 4-0 overall.

Norwich saw goals by Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) and Ian Thomas (Barrington, R.I.), while Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Ill.) assisted on both goals.  

The Cadets trailed 1-0 after the first quarter of action as Plattsburgh's James Higgins scored his first goal of the season with 1:08 to play in the frame.  Cole Anderson assisted on the goal.

Plattsburgh added four more goals in the second quarter. Ryan Hastings broke open second-quarter scoring with an unassisted goal 2:25 into the frame. Anderson extended the Cardinals' lead to 3-0 2:18 later on a pass by Higgins. Brandon Damm scored his ninth goal of the season with 6:41 left to play in the half to set the score at 4-0.

Norwich took an offside penalty with 4:04 left to play, allowing Plattsburgh's Brett McClelland to score the man-up goal seconds later.

The Cardinals tacked on three more goals in the third quarter as Tom Duggan, Hastings, and Higgins all found the net.

Plattsburgh scored six more goals in the fourth quarter to take the 14-0 lead before Norwich got on the board with a goal by Mendoza with 5:25 left to play.  Norwich would tack on a second tally at the 2:52 mark as Thomas scored a man-up goal following a Plattsburgh unnecessary roughness penalty.

On the afternoon, Plattsburgh was led by Damm, who scored four goals and added an assist. Higgins added two goals and an assist, while Hastings added two goals of his own. Duggan and McClelland both added a goal and an assist.

Norwich goaltender Mark Paradiso (Westford, Mass.) totaled 14 saves in the first half before giving way to Ryan Fecteau (Danvers, Mass.), who added nine saves in 30 minutes of action. Gordie Gehring played 56:43 in the win for Plattsburgh and totaled seven saves. The Cardinals posted advantages in shots (60-18) and shots on goal (34-10) in the win.

The Cadets return to action on Friday when they travel to Boston to take on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 4:00 p.m.
