Providence, R.I.-- The accolades keep rolling in for Norwich University junior Dave Pinto (Milford, Mass.), who was named to the all-tournament team Sunday at the New England Wrestling Association Dual Meet Championships.
Pinto earned a perfect 4-0 record on the day, all on the heels of being ranked fourth in the region at 165 pounds earlier this week.
He started off the day by getting the Cadets second win against fifth-seeded Williams, and followed it up by helping Norwich dominate Bridgewater State in a 45-7 victory.
Against Williams, the Cadets got additional victories from Richard Glazier (Peabody, Mass.) at 125 pounds and Samuel Kent (Keene, N.H.) at 197.
Norwich fell 33-12 against the Ephs before the match against Bridgewater State yielded victories from Alex Stewart (Ellicott City, Md.), Robby Zyko (Staten Island, N.Y.), Tyrell Carstarphen (Topeka, Kan.), Alex Kwmuntis (Peabody, Mass.), Pinto, Abraham Bray (Gold Bar, Wa.), Bryan Giblin (Georgetown, Mass.) and Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, R.I.). The Cadets only dropped two weight classes in the entire match.
The third match of the day proved to be the most competitive for the Cadets, who fell 24-20 to the same Southern Maine team they saw a week ago.
Pinto wrapped up another victory while Stewart and Carstarphen each picked up their second and Chris Schenk (Newnan, Ga.), who was also ranked earlier this week, won at 184 pounds.
The twelfth-seeded Cadets dropped the last match of the day to Western New England and will be in action again on Feb. 2 at the All-Academy Championships at West Point.
