Northfield—On the heels of winning two out of three matches a weekend ago at Trinity, the Cadets hosted their own quad meet Sunday at Andrews Hall.
Norwich narrowly defeated Springfield Technical Community College last weekend, and Sunday was no different as Norwich won 25-21. Norwich dropped the opening three weight classes before sophomore Alex Kwmuntis (Peabody, Mass.) got the Cadets rolling with a win at 149 pounds. Norwich then took the next four weight classes, getting wins from junior Evan Poole (West Milford, N.J.) at 157, standout Dave Pinto (Milford, Mass.) at 165, sophomore Nick Smith (Hanover, Mass.) at 174 and Chris Schenk (Newnan, Ga.) at 184.
Schenk registered a 14-1 decision, the biggest Cadet win of the match.
In the next match, Norwich fell 23-20 to Southern Maine but did get wins from Robby Zyko (Staten, Island, N.Y.) and Tyrell Carstarphen (Topeka, Kan.) at 133 and 141. Poole, Pinto, and Schenk each won their second match to give the Cadets the lead before the Huskies took the matchup at 197 pounds and the heavyweight division.
Norwich fell to Johnson & Wales 44-3 as Zyko propelled the Cadets to their only victory.
The Cadets will take the mat again Jan. 23 at Springfield College.
