Hartford, CT.—The Norwich University wrestling team captured two wins Saturday in a quad meet at Trinity College.
In the opening match, the Cadets defeated Springfield Technical Community College, 25-24. The Cadets trailed 24-22 going into the last match of the dual, but junior Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, R.I.) took the final battle at 285 pounds to give the Cadets the win.
Norwich trailed 20-0 against STCC before rattling wins in five of the final six weight classes. The Cadets got victories from team leader Dave Pinto (Milford, Mass.), followed by Evan Poole (West Milford, N.J.), Abraham Bray (Gold Bar, Wa.), Chris Schenk (Newnan, Ga.) and Joyce.
The Cadets then took the second dual of the day by dominating Mt. St. Vincent, 45-9. Norwich took eight of the 10 weight classes, again getting wins from Pinto, Poole, Schenk and Joyce. The Cadets also got a 12-6 win from Tyrell Carstarphen (Topeka, Kan.) along with wins from freshman Richard Glazier (Peabody, Mass.) and Alex Kwmuntis (Peabody, Mass.).
Norwich fell 29-16 to the hosts in the final dual of the day but Pinto and Joyce won for the third time to earn themselves a perfect afternoon.
