NORTHFIELD, VT. – Norwich University broke up a tightly-contested game April 16 with a big first half run en route to an 11-4 win over St. Joseph's College of Maine.

Coach Neal Anderson's Cadets (8-4), keeping level pegging with second-place Mount Ida on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference standings at 6-1, were knotted 1-1 with St. Joseph's College of Maine (7-8, 5-2 GNAC) throughout the opening frame. Sophomore midfielder Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) took a feed from fellow sophomore attacker Marco Weideraenders (Denver, Colo.) and sent a shot past the Monks' keeper with only 1:40 to go in the first period, sparking a seven-goal roll.

Mendoza, moving to 25 goals on the season with his fifth-straight multiple-goal game, added two more scores in the second quarter to push the Maroon and Gold's advantage to 7-1 at the break. He tallied his fifth goal to open the third period before the two sides split the final six scores.

Freshman midfielder Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Ill.) was also in the Cadets' multiple-goal club with three. Mendoza and Fuller were one-two in shots attempted with six and five, respectively, while junior midfielder Arron Canarelli (New Hartford, N.Y.) finished with four. Sophomore goalkeeper Mark Paradiso (Westford, Mass.) came up big in net, holding the Monks' to the four goals on 13 shots on goal. He turned in nine saves and was the team leader with six ground balls registered.

SJC's offense was led by senior attacker Jonathan Horgan and senior midfielder Paul Dolewa with two goals each.

The Cadets put their seven-game win streak on the line Wednesday, April 18, when Anna Maria College visits Howard Field for a 4 p.m. start. St. Joseph's plays at Mount Ida on the same day and at the same time.

NOTES – Paradiso continued to see his goals-against average tumble. He is now at 5.00 after beginning the season at 12.00. He's been tagged for just four goals in the last 120 minutes.  His nine saves put him over 100 for his career. … Fuller's three goals marked his third multiple-goal game of the year. … Mendoza stands just nine goals shy of 50 for his career.
