Men's Lacrosse: Norwich wins third straight

Box Score

NASHUA, N.H. – Norwich University used a five-goal second quarter to break open a 5-2 game on the way to a 13-4 victory over host Daniel Webster in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse matchup March 31 at Eagle Field.

Sophomore midfielder Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) led the Cadets (4-4, 2-1 GNAC) with four goals and an assist, while sophomore attacker Ian Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) added a pair of goals and two assists. Seven other goal scorers contributed for Norwich, which won its third straight, including freshman attacker Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Ill.); junior faceoff specialist and midfielder Nate Fortezzo (Branford, Conn.); sophomore midfielder William Flanagan (Oxford, N.Y.); junior midfielder Arron Canarelli (New Hartford, N.Y.); sophomore midfielder Zach MacMillan (Brunswick, Maine); sophomore attacker Marco Wiederaenders (Denver, Col.); and freshman attacker Victor Bill (Nazareth, Penn.).

Mendoza kick-started the Maroon and Gold with a pair of goals in the opening frame. He came back during NU's five-goal second stanza with two more scores to help give them a 10-2 halftime lead. Daniel Webster (2-4, 0-4 GNAC) moved as close as six (10-4) in the third period, but the Cadets answered the charge with the final three goals.

The offensive barrage for Coach Neal Anderson's squad made a winner out of freshman keeper Ryan Fecteau (Danvers, Mass.). He stopped five shots en route to his first collegiate decision.

Mendoza also led the way with six shots, while Thomas ended with five. The sophomore midfielder trio of Patrick Tommins (Fairfield, Conn.), Joey Ditommaso (Hubbard, Ohio), and Nick Godau (Bristol, Conn.) each compiled four ground balls each.

NU looks to increase its current win skein when Emerson College of Boston, Mass., visits Howard Field for a 4 p.m. opening faceoff Wednesday, April 4.
