PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A runner-up effort from 197-pounder
Nick Moore (Topeka, Kansas) led the individual efforts for Norwich
University at the 2012 New England Wrestling Association's
Futures tournament Feb. 19.
The Cadets ended the tourney in sixth place. Moore's mark
was among three top-three Maroon and Gold finishes. Freshmen
125-pounder Prashant Thakur (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and 184-pounder
Jacob Towse (West Springfield, Mass.) each took third.
Moore, the second seed in his weight class, took a pair of
overtime wins to reach the finals. He was a 4-2 winner over
Trinity's Cary Jones and Roger Williams' Tim
Garlington. He almost made it three-for-three in white-knuckle wins
but Johnson and Wales' Daniel Pond, the top seed, held him
off 9-8 for the title.
NU returns to the mat for the 2012 NEWA Championships Saturday
and Sunday, Feb. 25 and 26. Trinity College of Middletown, Conn.,
is the tournament host.
