Northfield, Vt.,-- Norwich ended day two at the Ithaca Invitational in eighth place after taking home 53.5 points. Johnson & Wales bested the host team by nine points en route to taking the team title.
The Cadets proved to be competitive at nearly every weight class over the two-day tournament as sophomore Alex Stewart (Ellicott City, Md.) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 125-pound division before falling to Jesse Gunter of Baldwin Wallace by a 6-2 decision.
At 141 pounds, the Cadets saw junior Robby Zyko (Staten Island, N.Y.) win a match in the consolation bracket as did both Alex Kwmuntis (Peabody, Mass.) and Tyrell Carstarphen (Topeka, Kan.) at 149 pounds. Kwmuntis defeated Carstarphen to collect his second win in the bracket.
At 157 pounds, Evan Poole (West Milford, N.J.) collected three wins in the consolation bracket before falling to Mark Gonzalez of Springfield College.
Junior Dave Pinto (Milford, Mass.) continues to prove vital for Norwich after advancing to the quarterfinals of the 165-pound division and Aaron Hunt (Marshfield, Mass.) also picked up three wins in the consolation bracket at 197.
The Cadets will be back in action Nov. 10 at the Roger Williams Invitational.
