BRISTOL, R.I.—Powered by a second-place finish by Dave Pinto (Milford, Mass.) at 155 pounds and 16 team pins, the Norwich University wrestling team totaled 109 points to finish 6th out of 12 teams at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Alex Whitney said of today's performance, "We made some huge improvements this weekend, with most of the changes coming from mental progress." He added, "We no longer are unsure of ourselves on the mat and our confidence continues to carry us on our upward trend."
In addition to Pinto's team-leading performance, the Cadets also saw top-five performances by Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, R.I.), who finished fifth in the heavyweight class, and Aaron Hunt (Marshfield, Mass.), who finished fifth in the 197 weight class and totaled a team-leading four pins.
Junior Chris Schenk (Newnan, Ga.) also ranked among the top finishers for the Cadets with a sixth-place result in the 184-pound class.
"I am really pleased with the improvements the guys continue to make," said assistant coach Connor Keating. "We did a nice job using our superior conditioning as a threat to help us finish with pins. I'm excited to start a new week of hard work and start making adjustments on Monday."
The Cadets, who posted their best finish since last season's 6th place finish at the New England Wrestling Association's Futures tournament, host their first home duel of the 2012-13 campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 14 against Plymouth State at 7:00 p.m. in Plumley Armory.
