SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Norwich University narrowly missed a
pair of dual victories at the 2012 New England Wrestling
Association duals championships Jan. 22.
The Cadets (0-8), the tournament's No. 14 seed, posted a
pair of 20-point-plus team efforts against the Worcester
Polytechnic Institute and the U.S. Coast Guard in the consolation
round but fell short of wins in each case. WPI took a 23-21 win,
while the USCGA was a 28-22 victor. Rhode Island College opened the
Maroon and Gold's day with a 30-12 win in the first
round.
Sophomore Sam Kent (Keene, N.H.) continued his recent individual
hot streak with a 2-1 record. He took a major decision against the
Coast Guard and a decision against WPI to up his season record to
5-6. Sophomore heavyweight Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, R.I.) hit the
20-win mark with a pair of forfeit victories, too.
Norwich continues its 2011-12 season with a home dual against
American International College Friday, Jan. 27. Meet time is 6 p.m.
inside Andrews Gymnasium.
