Box Score NEWTON, Mass. – While Howard Field sat
under a layer of snow and ice, the Norwich men's lacrosse
team switched locations with their Lasell College opponents and
played on the Lasers' Grellier Field in sunny, 70-degree
weather on Saturday. In their second conference game of the season,
the Cadets dropped a 10-1 decision to Lasell.
Sophomore Joe Galante assisted freshman
Ian Mendoza for Norwich's lone goal of the
afternoon. Freshman Andrew Dustin collected the
game-best six ground balls, although the team overall was beat by
the Lasers 30-18 on the ground.
Splitting time in net, junior Nathan Proctor
made seven saves in his 28 minutes between the pipes, while
freshman Mark Paradiso replaced him just minutes
before the half and set aside 12 shots over the course of the
game.
The Lasers were led in large part by their freshman midfielder
Dylan Fernandes who capitalized on four goals over the course of
the afternoon.
The Cadets were held scoreless for the first half of the game,
but the Lasers managed to find the back of the net past Proctor for
three goals in each of the first two quarters.
Norwich reached the scoreboard to make it a 6-1 game, but
unfortunately it would be the only time the Cadets found a way
through the Lasers' defense and past their experienced senior
netminder, Eric Walsh.
Shooting may have been the biggest difference in the
game's outcome, as the Cadets were outshot 50-12 and only
made half as many clears as their hosts, turning over possession 25
times to the Lasers' six.
However, when it came to face-offs the Cadets dominated, winning
12 of 15 on the afternoon.
Norwich will play Mount Ida on the road for their next game, as
they face off against the Mustangs at 4 p.m.
