Men's Tennis: Cadets Down Johnson State to Win Second Straight

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – After dropping its first three matches, the Norwich men's tennis team has now won back-to-back non-conference matches after Thursday's 6-3 win over Johnson State at Shapiro Fieldhouse.

Junior Collin Hyte defeated Ryan Joy (6-1, 6-1) at first singles and teamed with Brandon Carver to take second doubles 8-6 over Alen Turan and Kyle Young to help lead the Cadets to the victory.

Hyte improved to 4-1 overall on the season in singles matches and 3-2 in doubles matches.

Freshman Christian Hoskey rallied from losing the first set 6-2 to Chance Swafford to win the final two sets 6-3, 6-4 and win second singles for the Cadets.

Anthony Verno defeated Peter Leblanc 6-4, 6-0 to win fifth singles and improve to 2-2 in singles matches on the season.

NU also picked up two wins by forfeit at third doubles and sixth singles as Johnson State only had five players able to compete.

Norwich (2-3, 0-1 GNAC) returns to conference play this weekend when it travels to Emerson (0-7, 0-1 GNAC) to take on the Lions at noon on Saturday.
