BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich men's
lacrosse team stunned the Emerson Lions, 17-2, in a conference win
held on the Lions' downtown turf field in Boston.
Sophomore Joe
Galante remains the ringleader for the Cadets, as he
notched five goals, four ground balls and one assist in the
afternoon game. Freshman Ian
Thomas tallied a hat trick and two assists, while
classmate Marco
Wiederaenders and senior Patrick
Sikora netted a pair of goals.
Freshman Mark
Paradiso played just over 11 minutes in net, making
one save and allowing no shots past him. At that mark, sophomore
Caleb
Fournier came in to protect the pipes and made seven
saves in his first appearance of the season.
Two minutes into the first period, Wiederaenders assisted Sikora
to put the Cadets on the board. After another two minutes ticked
off the clock, Galante set up freshman Ian
Mendoza for his goal of the game, and the Cadets began
to quickly run up the score, holding an 8-0 advantage at the end of
the opening period.
The Cadets found careful opportunities to attack the net in the
second, as freshman Brandon
Stubbs assisted Galante for the lone goal of the
period.
Going into the second half, the Cadets knocked in another trio
of goals to own a 12-0 lead that the Lions would have to work hard
to compensate for. The home team was, however, able to take away
the shutout hopes for Norwich, as Dan Gold stepped up for Emerson
to put in both goals in the final period of the game.
The Cadets have a busy homecoming this week, as they'll host
their season opener at Howard Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m. against
Rivier. They'll return to the field on Thursday for their second
GNAC matchup of the week when they face-off against Daniel Webster
at 4 p.m.
