RUTLAND, Vt. – The Norwich tennis team broke into the win column for the first time in 2011 with an impressive 9-0 sweep of Green Mountain College on Friday afternoon at the Sports and Fitness Club of Vermont.
Junior Collin Hyte swept Green Mountain's Samuel Dixon 6-0, 6-0 at first singles to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Freshman Christian Hoskey (3-1) defeated Samantha Tarjirian 6-1, 6-0 at second singles, while Luis Galvez picked up his second straight singles win by a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Christopher Donovan at third singles.
Freshman Joseph Dvorak scored his first collegiate win at fourth singles by defeating Mark Thiong'o 6-3, 6-2.
Anthony Verno and Robert Martin rounded out the singles winners by winning 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively.
Hyte and Galvez teamed up to win first doubles 8-4 over Dixon and Tarjirian. Hoskey and Oliveira won their second straight second doubles match with 8-2 win over Donovan and Laura McRee.
Brandon Carver and Verno won third doubles 8-3 over Thiongo'o and Nicole Cardish.
Norwich (1-3, 0-1 GNAC) returns to home to Shapiro Fieldhouse on Thursday when the Cadets host Johnson State (1-2, 1-1 NAC) at 3:30 p.m.
