Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Cadets men's lacrosse team (2-1) dropped their first game of the season in a non-conference battle with the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth (6-0). Although Norwich doubled their opponents scoring efforts in the fourth quarter, the visitors faced a 13-8 loss at Cressy Field.
Sophomore Joe Galante netted four goals and two assists against the Corsairs, as freshmen Patick Tommins, Andrew Dustin, and Ian Mendoza each added a goal, in addition to senior Patrick Sikora's point.
The Cadets faced tough offensive talent from Corsairs' Nick Brett and Josh Arsenault who were able to get four goals apiece by Norwich's goalie, junior Nathan Proctor.
At halftime the home team held a five-goal advantage, outscoring Norwich 4-2 in the first quarter and 3-1 in the second. The Cadets were only able to find the back of the net once in the third, as opposed to the four-goal show UMass Dartmouth put on. Norwich, however, had the final say as they came back to outwork them 4-2 in the final round.
Although the Corsairs outshot the Cadets 42-30, both teams made nine saves, with the help of Proctor between the pipes for Norwich.
The Cadets overwhelmed UMass Dartmouth when it came to face-offs, outplaying them 16-7 at the 'x'.
While Norwich was originally scheduled to host their home opener this Wednesday against Castleton, the site has been changed to the Spartan's turf field in Rutland. The game time remains at 4 p.m.
