Box Score PORTLAND, Maine – The Cadets played Husson University at the neutral Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, Maine under the lights on Wednesday night, as Norwich University overcame the Eagles of Husson in a 7-5 battle in the chill of the early spring weather.
The Cadets, now 2-0 on the season, saw great action from freshman Marco Wiederaenders, who stepped up with two goals on the game, while seniors Patrick Sikora and Tyler Woods recorded two points apiece on a goal and assist each in the non-conference game.
It was a close battle between the two teams, as Husson outshot Norwich 28-20 and picked up five more ground balls over the course of play.
Norwich gained a solid lead as they finished the first period with a three-goal advantage and kept the Eagles scoreless in the second period to hold a 6-1 advantage at the half.
Husson worked to come from behind when they took the field at the start of the second half, outscoring the Cadets 3-1 in the third period, but it wasn't enough to take the lead before the final whistle, although they held their opponent scoreless in the fourth.
In net, junior Nathan Proctor stopped 12 shots on goal, while Husson's John Hooper turned away four of the Cadets shots on goal.
The Cadets will hit the road to UMass – Dartmouth on Saturday for a 1 p.m. non-conference game. Norwich has rescheduled their original home opener against Castleton State on March 30 and will remain on the road for the 4 p.m. game versus the Spartans.
