NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Michael White netted a
game-high four goals and added one assist, and Joe Galante posted
three goals and three assists as the Norwich University men's
lacrosse team pounded Lyndon State College, 14-2, Thursday
afternoon at Howard Field.
Kyle Marzeoti chipped in three goals for the Cadets, who have
won five straight games. Patrick Sikora, Jesse Mattson, Tyler Woods
and Thomas Hajosch each tallied one goal apiece to round out the
scoring for Norwich. Tyler Nicoll dished out three assists, while
Justin Pearson was credited with two helpers.
Norwich (8-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than halfway through
the first quarter on a pair of goals by White. Woods added his
marker with 5:12 to play in the opening stanza to give the Cadets a
3-0 advantage following the first 15 minutes of action.
The Cadets blew the game open in the second quarter, scoring
five times to establish an 8-1 cushion at the intermission. White
scored twice more during the frame as NU raced out to an 8-0 before
Chris Mansour put Lyndon State (3-4) on the scoreboard with less
than two minutes remaining in the half.
Marzeoti and Mattson tallied goals within the first five minutes
of the second half as Norwich's lead ballooned to 10-1. Max
Ercole scored for the Hornets with 5:16 remaining in the third
quarter to pull the visitors to within 10-2 heading into the final
period.
Galante tallied a pair of markers within a span of 15 seconds
early in the fourth quarter to extend NU's advantage to 12-2.
Sikora followed with his goal less than two minutes later, and
Marzeoti completed his hat trick at the 7:44 mark to cap the
scoring.
Norwich completely dominated all of the major statistical
categories as well, outshooting Lyndon State 27-9 and holding a
56-19 edge in ground balls. White led the way with eight shots,
while Nicoll scooped up a game-high seven ground balls. The Cadets
also won 17-of-19 faceoffs in the contest, with Marzeoti going
6-for-6 in the “X”.
Norwich will continue its four-game homestand on Saturday, April
17, when the Cadets host Pilgrim League foe Clark University at
Howard Field. The opening faceoff for the conference clash is set
for 1 p.m.
