CASTLETON, Vt. – The Norwich University
men's tennis team won its second consecutive match on
Thursday afternoon as the Cadets outlasted Castleton State College,
6-3, in a marathon non-conference contest. Four of the six singles
matches went three sets, and Norwich was able to win three of them
to pick up the victory.
Norwich (3-1) took two of the three doubles matches to open the
contest. Collin Hyte and Fritz Kaelber teamed to beat Sam Levine
and Greg Klopfer, 8-2, at first doubles. In second doubles, Justin
Garritt and Eric Slosek posted an 8-4 victory over Logan
O'Neill and Graham Oliveira. Chris Pashley and Travis Tyler
rounded out the doubles portion of the match with an 8-4 victory
over Kevin Eisenberg and Corey Kimball.
Hyte and Levine locked horns in a three-set match in first
singles, with Hyte pulling out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory. Kaelber
defeated Garritt in another three-setter, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, followed
by an Eisenberg win over O'Neill in third singles 6-0, 6-1.
Klopfer earned a three-set victory over Oliveira 6-1, 4-6, 6-1
at No. 4 singles, and Tyler took down Slosek 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in fifth
singles. Pashley rounded out the Norwich win with a 6-0, 6-2
victory over Kimball in the final singles match.
Castleton falls to 5-2 on the season, with both of the
Spartans' losses coming to Norwich.
Norwich returns to its Great Northeast Athletic Conference
(GNAC) schedule on Saturday, April 3, when the Cadets host Emerson
College at Shapiro Field House. First serve for the conference
clash is set for 1 p.m.
