Men's Lacrosse: Norwich Handles Becker, 15-5

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Michael White and Justin Pearson each tallied four goals as the Norwich University men's lacrosse team defeated Becker College, 15-5, in a non-league contest Saturday afternoon at Howard Field.

White and Jesse Mattson each added three assists apiece for the Cadets (3-1). Kyle Marzeoti chipped in three goals and one assist, while Joe Galante had two goals and one assist.

Norwich scored the first two goals of the contest as markers by Pearson and Patrick Sikora gave the Cadets a 2-0 edge less than halfway through the opening quarter. Becker (2-3-1) responded with two goals in a span of 10 seconds to knot the score at 2-2 midway through the first quarter, and the teams ended the frame deadlocked at 2-all.

White scored all four of his goals in the second quarter, which Norwich dominated to seize control of the game. The Cadets outscored the Hawks 6-1 in the stanza to carry an 8-3 advantage into halftime.

Norwich continued to pile it on in the third quarter, outscoring Becker 7-1 in the frame to take a commanding 15-4 lead into the final period. Pearson tallied three of his four markers in the quarter, while Marzeoti scored twice in the frame.

Becker scored the only goal of the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

The Cadets dominated the statistics sheet, outshooting Becker 35-20 and winning 14-of-24 faceoffs. Norwich was successful on 23-of-29 clear attempts, compared to just 13-of-33 for Becker. The Cadets were 3-for-6 on man-up opportunities, while the Hawks were 0-for-3.

Nathan Proctor play nearly 57 minutes in the Cadets' cage, and the junior made seven saves to pick up his second straight victory.

Aaron Fill paced the Becker offense with three goals and one assist. Josh Fask added two goals and two assists for the Hawks, who defeated the Cadets 8-5 last season.

The Cadets return to action on Wednesday, March 31, when they travel to Castleton, Vt., to battle in-state rival Castleton State College. The opening faceoff from Spartan Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
