ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Joey Eon and freshman Dave Pinto both authored 3-2 records in the 157-pound weight class to lead the Norwich University wrestling team at the Ithaca Invitational this past weekend. Overall 19 wrestlers saw action for the Cadets over the course of the two-day event.
Eon beat Jonny Kodsi (Springfield) in his first bout by fall at two minutes, 21 seconds, before dropping his second matchup in a 6-4 decision to Cortland's Justin Signorelli. He then handily defeated Anthony Blais of WNEC (dec. 13-5) and Steven's Davey Browne (dec. 8-2) before bowing out to Owen Vernon of Centenary (dec. 6-2).
Pinto got off to a strong start himself with a 10-5 decision over Ithaca's Steven Andolena, before dropping to Vernon. He went on to dominate his next two bouts with decisions over Johnson & Wales' Ethan Farrell (dec. 8-2) and Stephen Lauzon of WNEC (dec. 11-2). Pinto lost his final bout of the tournament to Signorelli by a 5-3 decision.
The Cadets return to action Saturday, Nov. 13, when they travel to Bristol, R.I., to partake in the Roger Williams Invitational hosted by Roger Williams. The first wrestlers are set to hit the mat at 10 a.m.
