NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University wrestling team fell to Plymouth State, 34-6, in its home-opening dual meet Wednesday night at Andrews Hall. The team score was not totally indicative of the match as the Cadets dropped five of the seven decisions against them by two or less points.
Freshman Mike Babbin had the lone win for the Cadets at 165 pounds, pinning PSU's Dustin Rudy at 4:32 of a highly entertaining bout.
Freshmen Samuel Kent (184 pounds), Henry Marley (197) and Kyle Brouillette (133) all dropped tough bouts by one-point decisions.
Classmate Evan Poole nearly had a victory in the 149-pound class, but was defeated by the Panthers' Travis Brooks, 6-4, in a last-second takedown.
Junior Matt Ditolla (285) also put forth a strong effort for the Cadets, falling to PSU's Jake Gagnon by a 3-1 decision in a tight bout.
NU next returns to action this weekend, Nov. 20-21, when they travel to Springfield, Mass., for the Springfield Invitational. The first bouts are set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
