PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Norwich University
wrestling team picked up a pair of victories and a loss on Sunday
afternoon, beating Plymouth State and Bridgewater State and falling
to Williams. The Cadets started the day by dropping a 43-3 decision
to Williams, but they rallied for a 21-19 win over Plymouth State
and a 24-17 victory over Bridgewater State.
Matt Valnoski was the only NU grappler to earn a win versus
Williams, as he earned a 5-3 decision at 174 pounds. The Ephs won
the other nine bouts to crush Norwich.
The Cadets had to rally from an early 9-0 deficit against
Plymouth State in their second match of the day. Pins by Nick
Monaco (141 pounds) and Clayton Brittingham (165 pounds) helped NU
storm back, and grab a 21-13 lead with two bouts remaining. The
Panthers picked up wins at the final two weight classes, but were
unable to pick up any bonus points as the Cadets held on for the
win.
A pin by Scott MacLean (125 pounds) and wins by decision by John
DaSilva (133 pounds) and Monaco (141 pounds) helped Norwich jump
out to a commanding 12-0 lead against Bridgewater State.
Brittingham picked up his second pin of the day at 165 pounds, and
Jordan Ferguson (197 pounds) and Raistlin Delisle (285 pounds)
earned wins by decision to cap the scoring.
Norwich improves to 4-4 on the season following today's action.
Norwich returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 24, when the Cadets
travel to Springfield, Mass., to participate in the New England
Duals hosted by Western New England College. Bouts are slated to
begin at 10 a.m.
