NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Ray Gauthier pinned his
opponent, and Clayton Brittingham and Matt Valnoski each picked up
major decision as the Norwich University wrestling team fell to
visiting Western New England College, 26-16, Sunday afternoon at
Andrews Hall.
Gauthier needed just 1 minute, 37 seconds to pin Travon Logan in
the 184-pound bout. Brittingham, meanwhile, picked up an 11-1 major
decision victory versus Chris Francois at 165 pounds. Valnoski
earned a 12-2 major decision over Matt Mangelli in the 174-pound
match-up.
Jordan Ferguson was the only other NU wrestler to earn a
victory, picking up a 6-0 decision opposite Dave Baldyga at 197
pounds.
WNEC won six of the first seven bouts to race out to a big lead.
Norwich won the final three bouts to make the final score a bit
closer.
Norwich returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 17, when the Cadets
travel to Plymouth, N.H., to take part in series of dual meets
against Plymouth State, Bridgewater State and Williams. The action
is set to get under way at 12 p.m.
