NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University tennis
team won its second straight match on Tuesday afternoon, defeating
in-state rival Lyndon State College, 8-1, at Shapiro Field House.
Norwich (5-5) swept the three doubles points and took five of
the six singles matches to secure the victory.
Peter Hooper and Collin Hyte teamed up for an 8-2 victory over
John Kennedy and Brad Darby at No. 1 doubles. Travis Tyler and
Chris Pashley followed with an 8-3 win over Ryan Maroney and Paul
Thibault at second doubles. Norwich picked up a win via forfeit in
the third doubles set as Lyndon State traveled with just four
players.
In singles action, Hyte got past Kennedy at No. 1 singles, 6-0,
6-4. Brad Hollingsworth beat Maroney, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
Bobby Whitbeck defeated Thibault, 6-3, 6-2, at fourth singles. NU
earned wins by forfeit in the Nos. 5 and 6 spots.
Lyndon State falls to 5-5 following today's match.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday, April 23, when the Cadets
travel to Boston, Mass., to battle Suffolk in a Great Northeast
Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament semifinal match. First serve
is set for 6:30 p.m.
