NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University tennis team got back in the win column on Thursday afternoon, defeating in-state rival Lyndon State College, 9-0, at Shapiro Field House.

Norwich (4-5) swept the three doubles points and took all six singles matches to secure the victory.

Peter Hooper and Collin Hyte set the tone for the day by teaming up for an 8-0 victory over John Kennedy and Brad Darby and No. 1 doubles. Travis Tyler and Chris Pashley followed with an equally impressive 8-2 win over Peter Dutile and Ryan Maroney at second doubles. In the No. 3 doubles match, Brad Hollingsworth and Bobby Whitbeck joined forces to knock off Paul Thibault and Jimmy Gaskell, 8-4.

The Cadets kept the momentum going in singles play as all six NU players won in straight sets. Hooper, who was coming off his first career loss last Saturday, made quick work of Darby at the top spot (6-0, 6-1). Hyte got past Kennedy at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Sanford cruised past Dutile, 6-0, 6-1, at third singles. At No. 4 singles, Tyler picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maroney. Pashley upended Thibault in the fifth singles match, 6-0, 6-2. Graham Oliveira completed the clean sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gaskell at No. 6 singles.

Lyndon State falls to 4-3 following today's match.

Norwich returns to action on Tuesday, April 21, when the Cadets travel to Lyndonville, Vt., to take on in-state rival Lyndon State College at 3:30 p.m.
