Final
Brackets
LEXINGTON, Va. - Connor Keating placed
runner-up at 157 pounds, and Jordan Ferguson finished fourth at 184
pounds to lead the Norwich University wrestling team to a
sixth-place finish at the 15th annual USAA All-Academy
Championships on Saturday.
The Cadets amassed 16.5 points to place sixth in the eight-team
field. NU edged host VMI (16.0 points) and Coast Guard (10.5
points). Navy won the team title with 105.0 points, while Army
placed runner-up with 90.0 points.
Keating, seeded fourth in the 157-pound bracket, began his day
by beating Merchant Marine's Scott Lowe, 10-3. After getting past
top-seeded Joel Ahern of Navy on a medical forfeit, Keating dropped
a tough 5-1 decision to second-seeded Rudy Chelednik of Army in the
championship final.
Ferguson, meanwhile, was defeated in his first match in the
184-pound draw by top-seeded Casey Caldwell of Navy. He dropped
into the consolation bracket, where he reeled off consecutive
victories over Greg Bredariol of Coast Guard (9-3) and Daniel
Argast of Merchant Marine (9-1) to reach the consolation final.
Unfortunately, Ferguson bowed to second-seeded Jon Drew of Army in
that bout, to place fourth.
Norwich will return to action on Friday, Feb. 20, when the
Cadets travel to Springfield, Mass., to take part in the New
England Championships.
