NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University
wrestling team closed out its final home competition by with a pair
of wins, defeating Bridgewater State and MIT on Saturday afternoon
at Plumley Armory.
The Cadets (5-9) beat Bridgewater, 31-15, and defeated MIT,
25-21. Norwich also dropped a 27-12 decision to Williams. Matt
Valnoski and Jake Ferguson led the way for NU, as both wrestlers
went 2-1 with a pair of pins.
In Norwich's first match of the day against Williams, Ferguson
(184 pounds) and Silas Bowerman (174 pounds) pinned their
opponents. Williams won the remaining eight bouts to take the 27-12
victory.
In the Cadets' second match, NU beat Bridgewater State, 31-15.
Scott Maclean (125 pounds), Valnoski (165 pounds) and Raistlin
Delisle (heavyweight) earned pins in their bouts, and Connor
Keating picked up a major decision at 157 pounds to lead Norwich.
Sean Scales forged a win by decision at 141 pounds, and Nick Monaco
was awarded a win via forfeit at 149 pounds to round out the
Cadets' list of winners versus the Bears.
In their third and final match of the day, Norwich slipped past
MIT, 25-21. Ferguson (175 pounds) and Valnoski (165 pounds) earned
their second pins of the day to help lead the way for the Cadets.
Keating registered another major decision at 157 pounds, Bowerman
picked up a win by forfeit at 184 pounds and Josh Bolduc earned a
decision at 133 pounds to round out NU's list of winners against
MIT.
Norwich will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28, when the
Cadets travel to Springfield, Mass., to take on the Springfield
College Pride in a dual match beginning at 7 p.m.
