NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University tennis
team snapped its brief two-match losing skid with a convincing 7-2
victory over GNAC rival Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon at
Shapiro Field House.
The Cadets (3-2, 1-1 GNAC) swept all three doubles matches, and
went on to take four of the six singles matches en route to the key
conference victory.
Sophomores Peter Hooper, Matt Sanford, Chris Pashley and Travis
Tyler each picked up two wins on the day as each player won in
singles and doubles for the Cadets.
Hooper defeated his opponent at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and
Sanford posted an identical score in his match at No. 2 singles.
Hooper and Sanford also paired to win at first doubles, 8-0.
Pashley and Tyler teamed to win 8-0 at second doubles, and each
then went on to win their singles matches in straight sets. Pashley
took a 6-1, 6-0 verdict at No. 3 singles, while Tyler secured a
6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles.
Garret Washburn and Kristina Quinlan picked up NU's seventh
point, as the duo teamed up to take an 8-0 decision at No. 3
doubles.
Albertus Magnus (1-3, 0-2 GNAC) got on the board by winning the
fifth and sixth singles matches.
Norwich steps out of GNAC play on Tuesday, April 8, when the
Cadets travel to Castleton, Vt., to tangle with in-state rival
Castleton State. The Cadets defeated the Spartans, 5-4, earlier
this season in Northfield.
