PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University
tennis team saw its season come to an end on Thursday afternoon as
the Cadets dropped a 7-2 decision to Johnson & Wales in a GNAC
Tournament semifinal match.
The fourth-seeded Cadets, who lost their final four matches of
the season, conclude their 2008 slate with a 6-6 overall record.
Top-seeded Johnson & Wales improves to 10-1 on the year, and
the Wildcats advance to the GNAC Tournament championship
match.
Peter Hooper had a hand in both of Norwich's points, as the
junior won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Hooper also teamed with
Travis Tyler to take an 8-2 verdict at No. 1 doubles.
Hooper, who was voted GNAC "Player of the Year" after an
impressive first season at NU, completed his season with a perfect
12-0 singles record, competing exclusively at No. 1 singles. The
Spartanburg, S.C., product also went 11-1 this year at first
doubles.
Johnson & Wales won the other five singles matches, and the
Wildcats took the remaining two doubles contests to secure the
victory.
