LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Peter Hooper continued his
dominance on the singles and doubles courts, but it was not enough
as the Norwich University tennis team lost its third straight match
on Tuesday, dropping a 5-4 decision to in-state rival Lyndon State.
The Cadets (6-5) captured two of the three doubles matches to
begin the contest, but the Hornets (3-7) rallied for the win by
taking four of the six singles matches.
Hooper remained unbeaten in singles play this season as the
Cadets' No. 1 player improved to 11-0 on the year by defeating John
Kennedy, 6-0, 6-0. Hooper and Travis Tyler improved to 3-0 in
doubles play this year with an 8-4 win over Kennedy and Bradley
Darby at first doubles. Hooper is 10-1 in doubles action on the
year, having compiled a 7-1 mark when paired with Sanford.
Sanford accounted for Norwich's only other win in singles action
as he defeated Kevin Manuck, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
NU's other win came at No. 2 doubles, where the pairing of
Sanford and Chris Pashley defeated Manuck and Matt Lentes, 8-5.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday, April 24, when the Cadets
travel to Providence, R.I., to take on Johnson & Wales in the
GNAC Tournament semifinals. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
