NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University tennis
team won its fourth straight match on Thursday afternoon, blanking
in-state rival Lyndon State, 9-0, at Shapiro Field House.
The Cadets (6-2) captured all three doubles matches, and then
won each of the six singles contests en route to the easy victory.
Peter Hooper, Norwich's No. 1 singles player, remained
undefeated (8-0) with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over John Kennedy. Matt
Sanford got past Matt Lentes, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Chris
Pashley upended Chris Hammett, 6-0, 6-1 at third singles. Travis
Tyler defeated Paul Thibault at No. 4 singles. At fifth singles,
Garrett Washburn recorded his first victory of the season with a
6-0, 6-0 win over Jordan Sherman. Katie Brammer was awarded a win
via forfeit at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Hooper and Sanford dispatched Kennedy and
Lentes, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles. At second doubles, Pashley and Tyler
downed the duo of Hammett and Thibault, 8-1. The pairing of
Washburn and Brammer earned a win via forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
Norwich is now 5-0 versus other Vermont schools, going 2-0
versus Castleton State, and 1-0 against Johnson State, Green
Mountain College and Lyndon State.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, April 19, when the Cadets
host GNAC rival Suffolk at Shapiro Field House. First serve is
slated for 1 p.m.
