COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The Bowdoin College men's
lacrosse team posted its first shutout victory since 1989 with a
27-0 win over Norwich University on Tuesday evening.
The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Cadets
fall to 0-1.
Bowdoin scored 17 first-half goals, including a dozen in the
second quarter to put the contest away. The Polar Bears added seven
in the third quarter and three more in the fourth. Mike Legg led
the offensive attack with seven goals, one shy of the program
record for goals in a game. A total of 13 players scored for
Bowdoin. Other multiple goal scorers included Russ Halliday (four),
Mike Giordano (three), Ben Smith (three) and Adam Tracy (two).
The 27 goals are the most by a Bowdoin squad since the Polar
Bears scored 27 against New England College in 1992. They fell just
two goals shy of tying the school record for goals in a game. The
Polar Bears' shutout is the fifth in program history. The last time
they shut out an opponent was 1989 against UMass-Lowell.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday, March 20, when the Cadets
travel to Boston to take on Emerson at 5:30 p.m.
