NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Cody Rideout pinned his
opponent in the heavyweight bout, and two other Cadet wrestler won
matches as the Norwich University wrestling team dropped a 27-12
decision to visiting Plymouth State Wednesday evening at Andrews
Hall.
Rideout pinned Jacob Gagnon in 3 minutes, 16 seconds in the
197-pound match. Connor Keating (157 pounds) and Clayton
Brittingham (157) picked up Norwich's other two victories, earning
three-point decisions in their bouts.
Plymouth State won the other seven matches to earn the victory.
The Panthers jumped on top 5-0 after the first bout of the night,
as Logan Russell earned an 18-2 technical fall victory over John
Egan at 149 pounds. Keating and Brittingham followed with their
wins to put NU on top 6-5 following three weight classes.
Plymouth State took control of the match by winning the next
three bouts, as the Panthers build a 15-6 lead with four weight
classes remaining. Rideout's pin helped the Cadets pull to within
three points at 15-12, but that was the last bout Norwich won on
the night.
PSU finished the match by winning the final three bouts-all
major decisions-to account for the final margin.
Norwich gets back on the mats on Saturday, Nov. 22, when the
Cadets travel to Springfield, Mass., to compete at the Springfield
Invitational.
