CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Brian Zane and Alex Whitney
each authored perfect 3-0 individual marks as the Norwich wrestling
team beat MIT and lost to Bridgewater State and Plymouth State on
Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets (6-9) downed MIT, 36-21, before falling to
Bridgewater State and Plymouth State by identical 27-15 scores.
Zane, who has won nine straight bouts, began his productive day
by pinning MIT's Greg Wellman in 3:23 at 133 pounds. The Cadets
used four forfeit victories to propel them to the convincing
victory.
Whitney's pin of Sean Swett at 184 pounds led NU versus
Bridgewater State. Three other Cadets registered wins by decision
in that match with Zane picking up a 8-4 win at 133 pounds, Vincent
Argese earning a 7-4 win at 125 pounds and Matt Valnoski taking a
6-5 verdict at 174 pounds.
Ryan Crosby headlined the list of winners versus Plymouth State,
pinning his opponent in 1:56 mark at 149 pounds. Zane moved up to
141 pounds in the Plymouth State match, and defeated his opponent,
7-2. Whitney added a 5-4 win at 184 pounds, while Clayton
Brittingham rounded out NU's list of winners against Plymouth with
a 6-4 decision at 165 pounds.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 2, when the Cadets
travel to West Point, N.Y., to take part in the Military Academy
championships.
