NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Massachusetts Maritime
exploded for six goals in the second and fourth periods en route to
a 19-11 victory over Norwich in a men's lacrosse game played at
Howard Field.
The win boosts the Buccaneers' record to 4-7
overall (2-5 Pilgrim League), while the Cadets drop to
2-8 (0-7 PL).
NU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the
game with Drew Caplin accounting for two scores. NU led 4-3 after
the first period and increased its lead to 8-6 with just over
five minutes to play in the half. MMA then scored three goals over
the final 3:10, capped off with Nick Hanney's goal with one second
on the clock, to take a 9-8 halftime lead.
The Buccaneers' offense and defense combined to take command in
the third, scoring four goals and holding the Cadets to one for a
13-9 lead. MMA scored four straight goals over the first six
minutes of the final period and cruised to the eight-point victory.
John Herman and Matt Fisher led MMA with three goals each.
Conner Burke, Alex Sherr, Sean Flanigan, Sean Lusigan, and Hanney
tallied two goals apiece.
Caplin led Norwich with four goals, while Kyle Marzeoti helped
out with three goals. Colin Smith totaled two goals, while Cody
Hardenburgh and Kyle Rogers each scored one to round out the
scoring for the Cadets.
Massachusetts Maritime outshot Norwich, 37-20. MMA netminder
Alex Deveaux made nine saves, while NU goalies Joe Phelan and Mike
Slack combined for 18 stops.
Both Norwich and Mass Maritime will close out Pilgrim League
play on Saturday. The Cadets will play at Babson at 6 p.m., while
the Buccaneers play at Lasell at 1 p.m.
