NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Chris Rideout and Jake Kirk-Elkin each won by fall, and three other Cadet wrestlers recorded major decisions as the Norwich wrestling team opened its home slate on Saturday afternoon with a 30-14 victory over visiting WPI at Plumley Armory.   

Norwich (2-0) trailed 14-12 with four bouts remaining in the match, but the Cadets won each of those matchups en route to their second straight victory.

NU fell behind, 4-0, after the first bout, but the Cadets evened the score in the 133-pound bout as Brian Zane recorded a 8-0 major decision. NU took an 8-4 lead following the 141-pound matchup, as Wesley Walter took a 9-0 major decision in that bout.

WPI regained the lead, 10-8, following a win by fall in the 149-pound bout. The teams split the next two bouts, with NU's Connor Keating recording a 9-1 major decision victory at 157 pounds.

Despite some early success, the Cadets found themselves trailing the match, 14-12, with four bouts to go. Norwich proved to be up to the challenge as the Cadets won each bout, including Rideout's pin at 184 pounds and Kirk-Elkin's pin at 285 pounds.

Alex Whitney (197 pounds) and Jake Ferguson (174) added wins by decision for NU.

Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 5, when the Cadets travel to Williams for a dual match. The first bout is slated for 7:30 p.m.
