SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Chris Rideout dropped down
a weight class and placed fifth at 184 pounds to lead the Norwich
wrestling team to a 14th-place finish at the 18th annual Doug
Parker Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets amassed 36.50 points as a team to place ahead of four
other schools, including Coast Guard.
Rhode Island College won the team title with 142.50 points.
Merchant Marine came in a distant second with 113.00 points, and
Centenary (111.00 points) rounded out the Top 3.
Rideout won three bouts by fall en route to the fifth-place
finish. The freshman avenged an early round loss in the fifth-place
match, pinning his opponent in the re-match to take the fifth-place
ribbon.
Freshman Wesly Walter continued to wrestle well for the Cadets,
battling all day long. Fellow freshman Jordan Ferguson put forth a
strong showing at 174 pounds as well.
NU head coach Rich Hasenfus was happy with how his young team
performed.
"I thought that, overall, we are coming along and improving with
each competition," said Hasenfus.
Norwich returns to the mats on Saturday, Dec. 1, when the Cadets
host WPI at 1:30 p.m.
