RUTLAND, Vt. – The Norwich University men's golf team placed fourth out of nine teams at the Vermont State University Castleton Invitational, finishing with a two-round team score of +61 at the Rutland Country Club.

The Cadets opened the tournament with a team score of +27 before carding a +34 during Sunday's final round. Norwich battled through rainy conditions throughout the tournament while continuing to compete near the top half of the team leaderboard.

Senior Cooper Bertrand (Caledon, Ont.) led the way for the Cadets, finishing tied for fifth overall at +7. Bertrand opened the tournament with a +3 in the first round before carding a +4 in Sunday's final round.

Senior Ben van Waterschoot (Whitby, Ont.) turned in a strong performance to finish tied for 15th at +16. Van Waterschoot shot a +7 in the opening round before finishing with a +9 in the second round.

Freshman Jake Kavanagh (Kirkland, Quebec) finished tied for 21st overall at +19. Kavanagh opened with a +7 before posting a +12 in the second round.

Senior Harrison Giambattista (Danielson, Conn.) finished 24th at +20. Giambattista carded a +9 in Saturday's opening round and followed with an +11 in the final round.

Freshman Jamie Crispi (Norwood, Mass.) rounded out the Norwich lineup in 25th place at +22. Crispi shot a +16 in the first round before making one of the biggest improvements of the tournament, dropping 10 strokes with a +6 in Sunday's final round.

The fourth-place finish comes after Norwich previously placed ninth at the St. Lawrence Invitational, finished runner-up at the Tony Mariano Invitational, and placed 16th at the Duke Nelson Invitational earlier in the fall.

Norwich will return to action on Friday, Sept. 25, when the Cadets travel to Candia, N.H., to compete at the Suffolk University Invitational at Candia Woods Golf Links. The tournament is scheduled to begin at noon.
