MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Norwich University men's golf team finished 16th out of 20 teams at the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course, after completing two rounds of play over the weekend in rainy and windy conditions.
The Cadets were led by Cooper Bertrand (Caledon, Ont.), who finished tied for 27th overall at +12. Bertrand opened the tournament with a +5 in the first round before carding a +7 in the second round to finish as Norwich's top individual.
Jake Kavanagh (Kirkland, Quebec) finished tied for 67th at +19, opening with a +11 before bouncing back with a +8 in the second round to move up the leaderboard.
Harrison Giambattista (Danielson, Conn.) also put together a strong second-round response, finishing tied for 73rd at +20. Giambattista shot a +12 in the opening round before improving by four strokes with a +8 in the second round.
Freshman Jamie Crispi (Norwood, Mass.) also finished tied for 73rd at +20, while Braden Camire (Saco, Maine) rounded out the Norwich lineup in 80th place at +22.
The Duke Nelson Invitational marked Norwich's second multi-day tournament of the fall season. The Cadets previously finished as runners-up at the Tony Mariano Invitational on Sept. 9, led by Bertrand's second-place finish and top-seven performances from Kavanaugh and Giambattista.
Norwich will return to action next weekend at Vermont State University Castleton. The Cadets will compete at the Rutland Country Club on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. before concluding the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 9 a.m.
