WORCESTER, Mass. - The Norwich University men's swimming & diving team continued its grip on the leaderboard with another dominant showing on Day 2 of the 2026 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, claiming first place in seven of eight events competed by the Cadets on Saturday at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center.
With 320.5 points through 17 events, the Cadets more than doubled their lead over second-place University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), who sits at 151.5. Regis College (111.0), Elms College (19.0), and Albertus Magnus College (6.0) round out the team standings heading into the final day.
Kristian Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.) delivered one of the meet's signature moments in the 100-yard individual medley, breaking the Norwich and GNAC record twice in one day. After besting the previous 2015 GNAC mark in prelims with a 53.03, Adlianitski lowered it again in the evening session, clocking in at 52.75 to win the event and secure his second individual title of the night.
Adlianitski opened the session with a blistering anchor leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay, teaming with
Drew Bylow (Monroe, Mich.),
Gabe Wettig (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), and
Adrian Riendeau (Ridgecrest, Calif.) to take first in 1:28.38. Riendeau went on to win the 50-yard backstroke in 24.65 and earned silver in the 100-yard IM behind Adlianitski.
Andrew Clark (Acworth, Ga.) swept both of his individual events, starting with a wire-to-wire win in the 100-yard butterfly (52.87) before returning to dominate the 500-yard freestyle in 4:50.00. Clark led a podium sweep in the distance race, followed by
John Connor Hallstrom (Bethany, Conn.) in 4:54.48 and
Alex Sulyma (Warwick, R.I.) in 4:58.44.
Adlianitski also notched a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.61, while Wettig and
Max Ansell (Red Bank, N.J.) added second- and third-place finishes, respectively, giving Norwich three of the top four spots in the sprint, as Ansell tied with Saint Joseph (Conn.)'s Nate Brasky.
Ansell later placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:25.97 swim, adding to Norwich's overall depth scoring.
To close out the evening, the Cadets cruised to a 7:17.73 finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay, with Adlianitski, Sulyma, Clark, and Bylow combining to hold off the University of Saint Joseph and solidify Norwich's stronghold at the top of the standings.
