WINTHROP, Mass. - For the second year in a row, Norwich University men's basketball standout
Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference First Team, capping off a historic career with yet another prestigious accolade, as voted on by the league's 15 men's basketball coaches and announced by the league office today.
Liss, a dominant force on the court, led the GNAC in scoring with an impressive 21.5 points per game while ranking among the league's elite in several statistical categories. He finished fourth in field goal percentage at 56.7%, eighth in free throw percentage at 83.0%, and fourth in rebounds per game with 8.8. He also showcased his versatility by distributing 53 assists and making a defensive impact with a conference-leading 44 blocked shots.
His back-to-back selection to the GNAC All-Conference First Team marks a milestone for the program, as he becomes the first Norwich player to accomplish the feat since
Geoff Hensley '06 earned consecutive First Team honors in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
Liss's stellar season was highlighted by a career-defining moment on Dec. 8, 2024, when he scored his 1,000th career point in the opening game of the 2024
Ed Hockenbury Classic against Elmira College. His remarkable play that week earned him national recognition, as he was named Norwich's first-ever U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III National Player of the Week. He also garnered consecutive GNAC Player of the Week honors in December, further solidifying his status as one of the conference's premier talents.
The senior logged double-digit efforts in all 24 appearances this season, including back-to-back season-high 32-point showcases against Vermont State University Randolph and Elmira in December. He eclipsed the 20-point plateau 15 times, while also posting a historic 30-point and 23-rebound double-double at Rivier University on Jan. 15.
Closing the chapter on his collegiate career, Liss leaves an indelible mark in Norwich basketball history. He finishes as the program's sixth all-time leading scorer with 1,391 career points, while also amassing 614 rebounds, 139 assists, 112 blocks, and 91 steals. His career field goal percentage of 58.7% ranks second all-time in program history, trailing only
Jon Ford '84.
Sophomore
Quinn Twombly (Glastonbury, Conn.) represented Norwich on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Twombly made seven appearances this season, scoring in back-to-back contests against JWU (Providence) and New England College, hauling down rebounds at Vermont State University Lyndon and Saint Joseph's College of Maine, and handing out assists on New England College and Mitchell College.
The Cadets concluded the 2024-25 campaign with a 17-9 overall record, including an 8-6 mark in GNAC play, while advancing to the GNAC Quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.
